Welcome to our QuickThoughts Video Series!

Dr. Marc Kossmann and Charlie Seymour Jr just returned from four information packed days in Denver, CO USA meeting with David Finkel and Stephen Wilklow of Maui Mastermind.

We are reading our copies of David's book – The Maui Millionaires – which we highly recommend.

If you have a chance to catch David and his group (they will be in San Diego in February 2010 and you should really get there) then grab it and go. I will go so far as to say you cannot afford not to go if you want to learn the art of having systems run your business so that your business does not run you!

Please watch our video tribute to the Maui Masterminds right here and sign up on our site (in the upper right hand corner!) so we can stay in touch with you!

And come back in a couple of days as we will have lots more for you to listen, watch, and enjoy!

An Inexpensive Video Camera, Maui, and the Power of Reciprocity

Whenever a good teachable moment comes along, I just want to jump on it both to share with you and to capture my own thought process.

Hi, this is Dr. Marc Kossmann. Charlie Seymour Jr and I are just back from a few days out in Denver. We were at a conference with David Finkel who is the founder of the Maui Millionaire Mastermind group. The focus of his work is all about helping business owners build a supportive community and learn the skills it takes to move your business to a level of automation so that you now own your business without being a slave to your business.

Well, that just had so much in common with what Charlie and I are building here at PersonalSuccess Marketing that we just had to fly out and learn more. Okay, so let's get to that teachable moment.

One of the things that Charlie and I strive to accomplish is to layer as many goals onto an action as we can reasonably pull off. So, in the case of our trip out to Denver, we were there to learn the content of what was being taught, we were there to study the structure of the event itself and how that content was delivered, and we were also there to network and look for strategic partnership opportunities.

Now, let's get to the power of a cheap video camera.

If you have been taking a look at our PersonalSuccess Marketing website, you might have noticed that we like to play around with video – it's our number one way to get our message out. That's because our philosophy is that marketing is just a form of relationship building. And video is a great tool for letting people get to know you before they have to take any risk in letting you get to know them. You may be familiar with the idea of the "no risk offer." Well, video is how we deliver the no risk relationship.

Naturally, we carry some cheap, easy-to-use Flip Video cameras with us pretty much anywhere we go. You gather a few clips along the way, most of them you will toss, but a few will be just the right thing to edit together and use as a relationship building tool.

Now, let's get to the power of Reciprocity.

I'm going to stand by my belief that reciprocity is one of the most important concepts in every form of human relationships, including marketing. It's so simple that it is easy to take for granted. We are hard wired to want to reciprocate. You do something nice for me, and out of reflex I am motivated to do something nice for you. Now do watch out because it works just as well in the negative direction. Make me angry and I will want to reciprocate that back at you.

That is why spam is such a dumb marketing strategy. For every sale you might make, you have just turned hundreds or thousands of potential customers away. If you have any understanding of the lifetime value of a customer or client, you would never even consider sending out email to an unqualified list.

But, I digress. So, Charlie and I naturally head out to Denver equipped with our video cameras. We shoot a bunch of clips and spend a little time – well… doing what exactly? Rather than promote ourselves, we put some effort into promoting our hosts, David Finkel, Stephen Wilklow, and the rest of the Maui Millionaire Mastermind team. We basically made a three minute commercial for THEM.

First off, it just felt like the right thing to do. They were putting on a great program. The content they were teaching had a great value and exactly the kind of information our customers and clients want. Now a short-sighted person might think that promoting them is like promoting your competition. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

I believe you have to approach the world with a mind open to the abundance of all that lies around you. There is never any shortage of customers and clients in the world. There are over six billion of us! How many clients do you need?

Reciprocity is a beautiful thing. We made up our three-minute tribute to the Maui Mastermind group and put it up on the website. Naturally, we shared it with David Finkel and his group. Now what would you do if someone basically handed you a commercial for your business? That is like a testimonial on steroids! Well, naturally, David just sent out a link to our video to his own email list of 77,000 followers. Would you not agree that this was a win-win outcome? (And we're grateful to David for his generosity!)

I recommend learning how to use video in your marketing. It is fun, easy, and inexpensive. We are going to be rolling out some materials over the next couple of weeks to help you do just that. We are going to show you our video marketing process and we are going to share with you some REALLY powerful tools that you should consider using.

Video has some magical properties when it comes to building your online presence.

Stay tuned. I think you are going to like what we have to show you. We are going to be launching a little video-based competition so that you can learn how to use video in a fun way. You might just walk away having some of the tools you are going to want to be using.

Play along and you might also find yourself getting your business promoted by our business and others by learning the power of the reciprocity game!
